About SalarySteps

SalarySteps is a small, independent site of pay and tax calculators, built so the math is clear, checkable, and private.

Who we are

Salary offers, hourly wages, overtime premiums, freelance rates, and bonus tax withholdings are often quoted in ways that are hard to compare. SalarySteps turns them into the same few numbers so you can compare them.

SalarySteps is developed and maintained by PullMesh. The site provides calculators and educational guides; it does not provide licensed tax or payroll services.

How we check the numbers

Every calculator is tested against worked examples before it is published, and each page explains its assumptions so you can check whether it fits your situation.

Our standards

Government sourcesAll tax brackets, standard deductions, and FICA wage bases are drawn directly from official publications by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Social Security Administration (SSA), and U.S. Department of Labor (DOL).
Formulas you can checkEvery calculator shows its formula and a worked example, so you can redo the math yourself.
Tested resultsEach calculator is checked against hand-worked examples, bracket edges and wage caps before any change goes live.
Private by defaultYour numbers are calculated in your browser and never sent to us. The address bar stores your inputs so results can be bookmarked or shared; sharing that URL exposes those values to the recipient.

What SalarySteps cannot do

Calculations provided by SalarySteps are educational estimates designed for personal planning, not professional tax, payroll, legal, or investment advice. Actual paycheck withholdings can differ based on employer payroll schedules, benefit elections (health, dental, vision), retirement plan contributions (traditional vs. Roth 401(k)), Form W-4 elections, local municipal wage taxes, and individual tax circumstances.

Commercial model & advertising transparency

SalarySteps is entirely free to access. The site is paid for by Google AdSense ads. Advertisers have no say over our calculations, content or methodology. We do not accept sponsored calculator results, paid product placements, or affiliate compensation from payroll providers.
